McAdams Raw Infused Pet Food

Launching a brand-new product range is always an exciting opportunity, especially when the packaging plays such an important role in protecting the product, communicating quality, and creating strong shelf impact. For the McAdams Raw Infused pet food, the brief required packaging that could support both the technical needs of the product and the premium visual direction of the brand.

With the inclusion of freeze-dried elements alongside kibble, the range needed packaging that would help maintain freshness, achieve the right pack appearance, and deliver a distinctive metallic finish on shelf.

Working closely with the McAdams team, Law Print supported the development of a packaging solution that balanced performance, practicality, and premium design impact, whilst introducing the PE MET recyclable mono material structure.

The Challenge

The McAdams Raw Infused range introduced new packaging considerations due to the nature of the product. The inclusion of freeze-dried ingredients meant the kibble density differed from more standard products, which had a direct impact on bag fill, pack sizing, and the final appearance of the filled bag.

It was important to ensure each pack looked correct when filled, with the right structure and presence on shelf. This required careful review of bag sizes and fill levels to avoid packs appearing under-filled or poorly proportioned, while still meeting the practical requirements of production and retail display.

The packaging also needed to protect the product effectively. Maintaining freshness was a key priority, particularly given the more sensitive nature of the freeze-dried element within the range.

The Solution

To support product freshness, a PE MET material was selected to provide the required barrier properties. This helped protect the contents and maintain the quality of the product throughout its shelf life.

The PE MET material also played an important role in achieving the visual finish of the pack. By using the metallic properties of the material itself, the packaging could deliver a premium metallic element on the front of the bag. A transparent print overlay was then applied to create a golden tint, giving the effect of a metallic ink while making full use of the substrate beneath.

This approach allowed the packaging to achieve a high-quality, premium look that aligned with the McAdams brand and helped the new Raw Infused range stand out on shelf.

Alongside the material and print development, the team reviewed the pack sizing and fill performance carefully. Because the kibble density was larger due to the freeze-dried inclusion, ensuring the correct bag size and fill was essential. This helped create a strong, consistent pack shape and the best possible shelf appearance for the finished product.

Design Appeal

The final packs successfully combine functionality with premium shelf appeal. The barrier properties of the PE MET material help protect the quality and freshness of the Raw Infused product, while the metallic effect and golden tint create a strong visual link to the premium nature of the range.

Together, these elements help communicate the quality of the product inside and support McAdams in launching a distinctive and considered new line.

Collaboration

This project also demonstrated the importance of close collaboration throughout the packaging development process. From reviewing the material specification and print approach to checking pack proportions and finished presentation, each stage required careful consideration to ensure the final result delivered both technically and visually.

The Law Print team worked closely with McAdams to help refine the packaging details and support a smooth transition from concept through to finished production.

Conclusion

The McAdams Raw Infused project was a great example of how packaging can support both product performance and brand presentation. From selecting a PE MET material for barrier protection, to using the substrate creatively to achieve a premium golden metallic effect, every detail was considered to help deliver the right result.

The project also highlighted the importance of practical pack development, particularly when working with new product formats and different kibble densities. By reviewing bag sizes, fill levels, and shelf appearance, the team helped ensure the final packaging looked as good as the product concept intended.

Working on a brand-new line is always rewarding, and it was especially exciting to help bring the McAdams Raw Infused range from concept to finished pack.

It’s always exciting to work on a brand-new range, and the McAdams Raw Infused project was a great one to be involved in. From the start, we worked closely with the McAdams team to make sure the packaging delivered both technically and visually. The PE MET material was a really important part of that, helping to provide the barrier needed to keep the product fresh, while also giving us the metallic base for the premium gold effect on the front of the bag. We also spent time reviewing the bag sizes and fill levels, as the freeze-dried element changes the kibble density and impacts how the finished pack looks. Getting that right was key to making sure the range had the best possible presence on shelf. It’s been a pleasure helping bring the concept to life, and we’re really proud of the finished result.
